The names Nancy and Joseph gave their first two sons and daughters shed light on facts concerning Nancy's mother, Mary (Davis) Masters. Their first son and daughter were named for Joseph's parents.  The second son and second daughter were named for Nancy's parents: Hillary Masters Goodbar and Mary Coe Davis Masters Goodbar.  We commonly see Mary's name being spelled as Davies.

• ii. Sarah GoodBar - Born 25 Apr 1812 in Overton Co., TN.  Died 3Mar 1850.  Burial in Diamond Gr. Cem., Morgan Co., IL. She married, first, Thomas Douglas, on 19 Dec 1830.  She married, second,  George W. McCulley,  on 13 Oct 1842.  They had eight children.³¹

• iii. Hillary Masters Goodbar - Born 25 Feb 1814 in Overton Co., TN and Died 24 Jul 1843.  He married Tennessee Mangold on 27 Aug 1837.  Hillary was postmaster at Livingston, TN 1837 - 39 and was a trustee of Overton Academy.  They had at least three sons.³¹

• iv. James Madison Goodbar - Born 23 Aug 1816 in Overton Co., TN and Died 2 Feb 1905 in Lebanon, Wilson Co., TN.  He married Verlinder Cullom on 10 Nov 1818.  Family lived in Overton Co., TN until after the Civil War later moving to Lebanon, Wilson Co., TN  They had eleven children.³¹

• v. Mary Coe Davies "Polly" Goodbar - Born 1 Mar 1819 in Overton Co., TN and Died 21 Nov 1895.  She married Stephen Decatur Burton on 19 Jul 1835.  They had six children.³¹

• vi. Julyann F. Goodbar - Born 16 Aug 1821 in Overton Co., TN. She married Burton Marchbanks on 20 Dec 1842.  Only one known child.³¹

• vii. Emily Wakefield Goodbar - Born 26 Mar 1824 in Overton Co., TN and Died 30 Jun 1898  She married Edward Bradley Draper on 19 May 1850.  He was Born 18 Mar 1804 near Bagdad, Jackson Co., TN.  They are both Buried near Livingston, Overton Co., TN.  They had eight children.³¹

• viii. Andrew Jackson Goodbar - Born 6 Aug 1826 in Overton Co., TN.  He married Susan Jones Cullom on 3 Jul 1849.  Andrew served as a Private for the Confederacy in the 1st Tennessee Infantry, Co. B.  He was killed in the engagement near Perryville, KY on 8 Oct 1862.  They both are buried in the Cullom ploy, Bethlehem Cem., Overton Co., TN.  They had seven children.³¹

• ix. Joseph Lafayette Goodbar - Born 12 Apr 1829 in Overton Co., TN.  At age 21 Joseph was shown living in the home of his brother, Andrew Jackson.  He was associated with him in mercantile, real estate and slave trade in Livingston, TN.  He enlisted on 11 Nov 1861 and served as 2nd Lt. Co. D. 4th Reg (Murray's) Tennessee Cavalry.  There is no record of any marriage.³¹

• x. Jesse Franklin Goodbar - Born 11 Jun 1831 in Overton Co., TN and Died on 22 Sep 1918 in Lonoke, AR.  He married Alice Catherine Gardenhire on 24 Jan 1861. Although there are no official records, family tradition claims that Jesse was a major in the Quartermaster Dept. of the Confederate Army. The family moved to Sparta, White Co., TN in 1865, the in 1874 moved to Lonoke, AR.  They had five children.³¹

• xi. Thomas Porter Goodbar - Born 24 Aug 1834 in Overton Co., TN and Died on 24 May 1910.  He married Sarah Ann Cullom on 20 Nov 1860.  He moved after 1872, to Lebanon, Wilson Co., TN where he was a successful merchant.  Many of the family, including their seven children, are buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Lebanon, Wilson Co., TN.³¹

• i.  Deborah "Debby" Masters (Jesse ⁵, Hillery ⁴, Robert ³, William W.², Robert ¹) ⁸¹ - Born 27 Nov 1818 in Overton Co., TN and Died 24 Jan 1904 in Overton Co., TN ³⁴ with Burial in Fiske Cem., Overton Co., TN.  She married James Byrd Thomas, son of  John Thomas and Catherine Byrd ²⁶ on 8 Feb 1836 in Overton Co., TN.³⁴  He was Born circa 1818 in Livingston, Overton Co., TN and Died after 1852.  Byrd Thomas was a livestock dealer and traveled to other counties and states to purchase horses.  He often traveled at night and slept days to avoid Indians.  He became ill on one of his trips, died and was probably buried where he died.²⁶  The 1860 census showed Deborah as head of household.  They had the following Children:

Masters Cem., Overton Co., TN.⁸⁴

  Isaac Gore Masters served in the Confederate Army in the Civil War. He enlisted in the 84th Tennessee Infantry, Company F, on December 1, 1862 along with other men from Overton County. He was later promoted to 1st Lieutenant. After consolidation with the 28th Infantry, he served in many campaigns including Chattanooga, Atlanta and the battle of Franklin.³² After the Civil War and through most of his adult life, he hauled merchandise from Nashville to merchants in Overton County with a six horse team and a large wagon.²⁶

  The cause of death noted on his death certificate was "Parrolysis caused by cerebral hemorage".  His occupation at the time of death was listed as a farmer and the undertaker was R. S. Masters.²⁶

Gilead Cem., Overton Co., TN.  Sorvena was called "Darl" which was short for Darling according to her daughter, Myrtle Ward Goodpasture.  Before Darl got married, they bought a "new-fangled" wood cook stove.  Her father, Isaac Gore Masters, did not want Darl to use the new stove for cooking food for the wedding because he was sure that the stove would burn the house down.  The fireplace was normally used for cooking in homes of this period.   The two William Bilyeu's who married daughters i & iii below were cousins.  Legend is that the William who married Sara Elizabeth, killed Burr Gore, a 17 year old youth during a KKK raid. After the killing he and Sarah left Tennessee never again to return. ²⁶
